With well below average rainfall - April was the driest since 2010 - and warm weather, the demand for water has increased significantly in recent weeks.  Water may appear to be readily available but the reality is that our aquifers are not being replenished at the rate needed to keep up with demand.

Although we have the powers to restrict the use of water including a hosepipe ban and a ban on filling swimming pools as well as powers to restrict water use by commercial customers we want to avoid having to use them. If all consumers make a genuine effort to use water responsibly these restrictions will not be necessary.

We have written to your parish council chairmen explaining the situation and have asked them to pass on the message.  We have posted similar notices in public places giving guidance on everyday ways in which water can be saved.

Using water responsibly may save you a major inconvenience. Please help us to help you.
